Before turning our attention fully to the Canada West regular season, Huskie Outsider wants to take one last look back at Friday’s 33 – 10 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks. 1st down: Who gets your game ball? Tom: The good news is that there are several Huskies that had strong games, but Mitch Hillis really stood out with his sure hands and then turned heads with his incredible run after the catch on his second touchdown of the game. Dallas: Mitch Hillis had a good game, but I was most impressed with Drew Burko on the night. He threw one bad interception and then settled in and showed the | Full Article

Eight practices are now in the books, so we thought we’d talk Huskie football with another edition of “Three Downs.” 1st down: What is your impression of training camp so far? Dallas: I thought they started out slow and rusty the first couple days but have really turned it on the last two days. The offence is looking sharp and quick and the defence is looking physical and fast. Their play on Tuesday is what I was expecting of the team since spring camp. Tom: The ugly weather hindered the Huskies on Saturday, and there still seemed to be a fair amount of rust on Sunday morning, but that was | Full Article

The Huskies come off their bye week with a Friday night clash with Manitoba. Despite the Huskies’ 20 point victory over the Bisons in week #1, most view these teams as very evenly matched. Huskie Outsider offers their thoughts on Friday’s game with another edition of “Three Downs.” 1st down: Who is one player that you think is poised for a strong second half to the season? Dog Whisperer: Kolodzinski! He is having the most consistent year of his career and it should continue. Honourable mention to Julan Lynch, mostly because we NEED him to be an impact player in the second half, but getting him involved and exploiting his | Full Article

The Dogs are looking to get back in the win column after suffering their first loss of the season in a closely played game with Calgary. They’ll kickoff at Taylor Field at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon. Huskie Outsider reflects on the first three weeks of the season and looks ahead to saturday’s matchup with another edition of Three Downs. 1st Down: What has been the best performing unit on the team through three games? Dog Whisperer: This is a tough call between the LB’s and the receivers. The LB’s have known that we lack depth but have played hard and made up for a less experienced DL. The receivers, as | Full Article

The Huskies and Calgary Dinos sit atop the Canada West conference with identical 2 – 0 records. Calgary has notched their two wins in impressive fashion, while the Huskies struggled to a one point win in Alberta following their own terrific performance against Manitoba. Added to the excitement is the fact that it is also the annual Support Our Troops game where the Dogs will wear their camouflage jerseys and helmets, and many members of the armed forces will be out to cheer them on. Huskie Outsider takes a look at the matchup between the two best teams in the conference with another edition of “Three Downs.” 1st down: The | Full Article

The Dogs got off to a very encouraging start with their win over Manitoba. Now they hit the road to play the Alberta Golden Bears. The Bears got off to a rough start to the season in Calgary, but everyone believes they’re a much better team than they showed last week. Huskie Outsider now weighs in with another edition of Three Downs: 1st down: What is one thing you took away from the win over Manitoba? Dallas: I confirmed what I suspected, that the Huskies are a much better team, overall, than they were last season. They battled back from adversity and showed their tenacity and depth at the skill | Full Article

At long last, the 2014 Huskie football season will begin later this week with the start of training camp. Huskie Outsider will have full coverage from camp, and we wanted to begin with another edition of “Three Downs.” 1st down: Going into training camp, which position group are you most optimistic about seeing improvement over last season? Dog Whisperer: Quarterback. With a dedicated QB coach I think that Burko should start to show the ability that made him a top prospect at the position. Offensive changes always bring a rejuvenation and early confidence in the plan will be key. Ryan: Running Back. Looking at the stats last year, the Huskies | Full Article

The Huskies and Manitoba Bisons have split their previous two meetings this season; the rubber match takes place in Winnipeg on Friday. Huskie Outsider talks about what the Dogs must do to come away with a win in another edition of Three Downs. 1st Down: What is the key for the Huskie offence to be successful against Manitoba? Dallas: They have to do the small things better. The underneath routes and quick outs are not working and getting a gain running the ball is impossible at times. We need better accuracy from the quarterback, more receivers getting open, better run blocking from the offensive line and running backs finding their | Full Article
