Huskie Outsider enjoys hearing the memories and opinions of Huskie football from loyal Dog fans. Readers can submit comments about each of our articles, but we also seek out fans to comment at length about Huskie football. We call these submissions “From the Grandstand.” Kim Wudrick is a long time Huskie fan, and current president of Football Saskatchewan. We thank Kim for sharing his thoughts and memories about the UofS football program.
Q: For how many years have you been following the Huskies?
Kim: 35+ years; I have been a fan since Dave Pickett was our quarterback.
Q: What is the best Huskie game that you have ever seen?
Kim: The 2006 Vanier Cup in Saskatoon, a 13-8 victory for Laval. It was special because 13,000 fans remained in the stadium until the final gun – I walked off the field with Glen Constantine (Laval’s head coach), and he was amazed at the fan support.
Q: Which Huskie team do you feel is the best ever?
Kim: The 2005 team
Q: Who are your 3 favourite Huskie players of all time, and why?
Kim: Dave Pickett – He was a Hec Crighton award winner
David Stevens – He was the Huskies’ best player ever
Gene Makowski – A future hall of famer
Q: What are your thoughts/impressions/predictions for the 2013 Huskies?
Kim: I hate to say 2nd place, but Calgary will still be strong.
Q: What do you think is the best rivalry between the Huskies and another team (current or past rivalry)?
Kim: Huskies vs. Laval
Q: Which 2013 game are you most looking forward to?
Kim: October 4 vs. Calgary
Q: What would you say to a potential recruit who is considering joining the Huskies? Kim: You will have outstanding facilities, a great program, and it starts with head coach BT.
Q: Is there anything else you wish to add? This could include game memories, things from the Dogs’ Breakfast, craziest/funniest thing you’ve seen from a fan…you name it. Kim: I would like to thank the Graham family and David Dube for all the time and effort that they put into the Huskie program.
