Krieger excited by opportunity to play in Homecoming game

The Huskies have been pleasantly surprised by the contributions made by players in their first year of eligibility. Already this season, freshmen Brydon Ozmun, Julan Lynch, Brayden Twaryski, Travoy Martinez, Keegan Arnyek, Jarvis James, Devin Logan, and Drew Bexson have seen game action. That list doesn’t include several redshirt freshmen, such as starting quarterback Drew Burko. Spencer Krieger is another of the 1st year players who redshirted last season. The halfback from Holy Cross Collegiate has looked good in practice this fall and hopes to be a key contributor on defence against the Rams. Just as this article was posted, Krieger was running onto the field, to sound of “Enter Sandman,” and getting ready for his first start. “I’m excited and looking forward to the game. I’ve been waiting for this for a couple of years now; I haven’t started a game since the Senior Bowl. I hope to make the most of the opportunity.”

Krieger acknowledges that veteran members of the secondary have helped prepare him for this moment. “I’m getting more comfortable because I’ve been practicing with a bunch of defensive backs who are in their fourth and fifth year of eligibility. I’ll feed off of them and do my best out there.”

Krieger knows that tonight’s game takes on added excitement because it is against their provincial foe, the Regina Rams. “There’s a lot of history between the two teams, and that adds a little to the buildup of the game. Hopefully we can feed off of the large crowd and execute well.”
