Earlier this morning, the Huskies held a press conference. Among other things, head coach Brian Towriss discussed the Huskies’ schedule, their fitness level entering camp, the team’s roster, two of the Dogs’ new 2012 uniforms, the upcoming non-conference game against Guelph, and thank some of the program’s sponsors.
Here are a few highlights of what BT had to say:
-Thanks to the Huskies’ first year in their outstanding new training facility, the team had a great off-season of training, and this will be the fittest Huskies team that has ever taken the field.
-Coach compared next week’s non-conference game opponent, the Guelph Gryphons, to the Windsor Lancers, who the Dogs faced last fall. They are an up and coming team in the OUA conference.
-There will be 96 players registered for the start of camp. The final roster will be finalized on Monday or Tuesday of next week.
-Between September 7 and September 29, the Huskies will have a tough stretch on their schedule where they will play four conference games, with only one of them being at home.
-The Huskies will field a veteran defense. While the Huskies will replace their entire linebacking unit, that was the position where there was lots of depth. BT expects there to be a seamless transition on that side of the ball.
-Offensively, the Huskies are way ahead of where they were at this point last season.
-Coach Towriss thanked David Dube, Heather Ryan, and the Concorde Group, as well as all of the Huskies’ corporate partners, for their support of the Huskie football program. BT mentioned the gameday experience that Mr. Dube provides, as well as thanked him for all of the behind the scenes help that he has provided.
-BT recognized CJVR for their long partnership in broadcasting Huskie football.
-Two players, Braeden George and Luke Thiel, wore two of the Huskies’ newest uniforms, a very sleek look designed by Under Armor. Coach Towriss mentioned that Huskie football is proud of the partnership that they will have with Under Armour Canada for the next three years.
The Huskies take to the field with their test session in a couple of hours. Huskie Outsider will provide a full report on the test session shortly after the results are made available to us.
