For the past few years, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies have introduced several new alternative jerseys, including the retros and the all black jerseys. They have also added a white helmet to compliment their traditional green helmets.
At the press conference yesterday, to kick off the 2012 season, the Huskies introduced two more jerseys, one green and one white. The Huskies will have a few surprises throughout the season that they have not announced.
“We have a partnership with Under Armour last year and part of that deal was to get new uniforms this year,” said Huskies head coach Brian Towriss. “We are really happy with the relationship that we have with them and look forward to unveiling some new things in the future.”
When you factor in the helmet, jersey and pants combo, the Huskies will have over 230 different uniforms to choose from.
“It’s a lot of fun for the players and the fans to see the team wearing something different every game,” said Towriss. “The new uniforms have a more modern cut with a tighter fit which should help us in game situations. They also feature the ‘Huskies’ name on the back of the pants, which is something that not a lot of other teams are doing.”
Running back Dexter Janke was able to try on the new uniforms a few weeks ago. He likes their new look. “Its exciting to wear different jerseys at every game and the guys really get pumped before kick-off,” he said. “But ultimately we are focusing on getting a win. Having new uniforms might give us a little extra to help get us there.”
The Huskies host the Guelph Gryphons on Friday August 24th in the national non-conference game. For the first time that anyone involved with the football team can remember, the Huskies will be wearing all greens. A green helmet, green jerseys and green pants.
