The first day of two-a-days is in the books. Here are a few observations from the Huskie Outsider team about the afternoon practice:
Ryan: The play of the day was the reaction that receiver Charlie Power made on a Chase Bradshaw pass. The ball was slightly under thrown and Power reached back and made an incredible reception between two defenders. Power turned his body and somehow came out between the defenders to make the catch.
Linebacker Richard Zacharias really showed a lot of hustle today and did an excellent job in the team drills.
Offensive lineman Mike Fuller had a good afternoon practice winning some battles in one on ones and making some key blocks in the team sessions.
The quarterbacks all made some nice throws. Drew Burko appears to have added some arm strength in the offseason.
Tom: Braxton Lawrence had a great pass breakup against Braeden George. Geoff Hughes also looked strong with blanket coverage on George.
Overall, this afternoon saw a better performance from the DB’s in 1 on 1′s vs. the receivers. Mitch Friesen looked strong with an interception.
A great catch was made in traffic by freshman Brydon Ozmun during skeleton, one of several catches that he made.
Despite interference by Andrew Abbs, Charlie Power made a great leaping catch late in the practice.
Dallas: I agree with Ryan about Mike Fuller. He looked strong and is showing some veteran poise while taking first-team reps at right tackle.
Running back Shane Buchanan flattened a rushing linebacker with a huge hit.
Kit Hillis had a strong day, running precise routes and scoring a touchdown during a scrimmage session.
The defensive line looks very strong, with Joel Seutter, Zach Hart, Brayden Twarynski, David Rybinski and Glen Joorisity getting through the blocks of the offensive line with relative ease.
Practices are at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
