The University of Saskatchewan Huskies will play their national non-conference game and all four Canada West season games on Friday nights, once again, at Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park.
Since the Huskies switched to an all Friday night game package four years ago, their attendance has went from an average of 2,000 fans per game to an average of over 6,000 fans a game, which they recorded in 2011.
“It’s become a bit of a tradition here now,” said Huskies Head Coach Brian Towriss. “We know we have some of our fan base who would like to see us play on an afternoon, later in the season, and we consider that every year.”
“This year, as in the past, our last two games would go head to head with the Saskatchewan Roughriders if we played in the afternoon,” Towriss added. “We wanted to make sure that our fans, who are also Rider fans, had a chance to see both games. Therefore, we have scheduled all of our home games on Friday nights.”
The electricity in the stadium on Friday nights is unparalleled in the Canada West as the fans have really taken to creating an NCAA like atmosphere. The Huskie players love playing at night in front of a full house.
“What we need to do is take care of business at home on Friday nights,” said Towriss. “Our fans get the players and coaches jacked up, and we really appreciate the noise that they make. We really do have the best fans in the country, and playing at night makes it that much more special.”
Friday Night kick-offs are at 7:00pm. Here is the home schedule:
Friday, August 24 vs Guelph Gryphons, 7 p.m. (non-conference)
