From the track to the gridiron: Coakwell runs blistering time in the 40

The Huskies’ just completed their fall testing session a couple of hours ago. Ben Coakwell had one of the highlights of the day, recording a time of 4.42 seconds in the 40 yard dash. Strength and conditioning coach, Bart Arnold, believes this was the fastest 40 time that has ever been run by a Huskie. Coakwell’s time shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as he ran the fastest time in last year’s test session as well.

One reason for the improvement in Ben’s speed is that he was on the the Huskies’ track and field team last winter, and was the team’s fastest sprinter. The training with the track team was beneficial. “I was able to pick up a few things, technique-wise, that improved my speed. I really enjoyed running with the track team. The coaches were outstanding and my teammates were great. I’m hoping that a few more of my football teammates will come out for the track team next winter.”

As fast as Coakwell’s time was, on two separate occasions, during the ‘Bart U’ summer training program, he ran a little quicker and recorded a sub 4.40 time. This occurred during the final two Bart U sessions of the summer. This was confirmed to Huskie Outsider by Coach Arnold.

We will have much more complete results of today’s testing, along with some photos, that will be posted tomorrow evening.
