The Huskies are in a familiar situation when it comes to the running back position. They need to rely on depth and young talent to fill the void of departed veteran Dathan Thomas and injured player Jeff Hassler.
Luckily, the Huskies have plenty of talent at the position. 2010 leading rusher Ben Coakwell returns and has been impressing many at camp with his poise, leadership, and most of all his ability to make plays. Mark Klause is returning after rehabilitating an injury, as is Jeremy Andrew, who made a name for himself with a touchdown against Manitoba last sesaon.
Dexter Janke is unknown to most teams, but not the Huskies, who have been waiting patiently to get this ultra-talented player on the field. As he showed in spring camp, Janke will be ready to tear up the field and will leave opposing defences wishing they had stayed home.
Alex Balogun returns, giving the Huskies many options both on the ground and through the air. His sure hands and tough running has led to many Huskie touchdowns. He is now tutoring youngsters Joey Deason and Shane Buchanan, who both want to get some playing time this fall.
This unit looks very solid, even with the departures of veterans. Expect more production this year as the Huskies will likely try to establish a more balanced attack on offence.
