Murray Sadownick is a former player with the Huskies, a current member of the Huskies’ football foundation, and a rabid fan! Thank you to Murray for contributing his thoughts to “From the Grandstand.”
Q: For how many years have you been following the Huskies?
Murray: I’ve been a fan since 1977, and I played from 1978 – 1983.
Q: What is the best Huskie game that you have ever seen? What was special about this game?
Murray: The Vanier Cup game, vs. Western, that went into double overtime. It was the most exciting game I’ve every seen at any level, amateur or pro.
Q: Which Huskie team do you feel is the best ever, or your favourite team?
Murray: There are many, but the 1990 team (Huskies’ 1st Vanier championship) stands out.
Q: Who are your 3 favourite Huskie players of all time, and why?
Murray: 1) Running back Doug Rozon: He was the model Huskies running back for years, and even to this date. Jeff Hassler is a similar back. 2) Les Mcfarlane: One of the best athletes who ever wore a Huskie jersey. 3) Dylan Barker: In the same class as Les McFarlane.
Q: What are your thoughts/impressions of the 2010 Huskie team (team and/or individual players)?
Murray: They are a very athletic team that has the potential to make it to the Vanier Cup. Unfortunately, two of the other top teams in the country are also in CanWest. We have had too many key injuries this year, however we do have enough depth to remain a contender.
Q: What do you think is the best rivalry between the Huskies and another team (current or past rivalry)?
Murray: The Rams, and it will remain that way until McCrystal is no longer coaching.
Q: What would you say to a potential recruit who is considering playing for the Huskies?
Murray: The Huskie football program is like becoming part of a big family. There is no other program in the country that has as much support from their alumni, community, and fans.
Q: Is there anything else that you wish to add? This could include game memories, things from the Dogs’ Breakfast, craziest/funniest thing you’ve seen from a fan…you name it.
Murray: The Huskies’ game day atmosphere is second to none. CFL teams are learning from the Dogs!
