Huskies Receiver Rory Kohlert broke his fibula just above the ankle at a CFL evaluation camp two weeks ago. He will be out for about six more weeks. Kohlert had participated in the off-field testing and had the top vertical and the fifth best shuttle of the players at Duane Forde’s evaluation camp.
The players moved to on-field testing and Kohlert heard a snap near his ankle on an 18 yard comeback route during his fourth one-on-one play. “The guys on the sideline said they could hear it crack,” said Kohlert.

He is in a boot cast right now, but should be walking again in a few weeks. Kohlert is out for the spring camp but will be ready to go by the fall training camp. Typically, with a spiral fracture like this, the bone takes about six weeks to heal and about two more weeks to build up some strength.
Kohlert has still been attending morning workouts. “I want to be around the guys and listen in on some new things that we are adding,” he said after yesterday’s morning workout. “We have a great bunch of players here, and they have help me get through this.”
Kohlert said he was disappointed that CFL teams were not able to see him practice, but that has given him added motivation to workout and have a better year in 2010. Kohlert had 14 receptions for 209 yards last season as he was learning the offense. He really started to click in the second half of the season and had five catches for 166 yards in the Hardy Cup against Calgary. The Huskies are expecting big things from Kohlert this season.
